tahti.live

A home for your music, and your live shows.

Nonprofit broadcasting for independent artists — built to support artists, not algorithms.

What we are

Two things at once.

Release system
A real discography & release engine
+
Broadcast
A proper live platform for performers

You make the music. We take care of the rest — the tedious, mechanical work automated, drawn from two decades in streaming.

Built for broadcasters

Live is the heart of it.

OBSMixxxTraktorbuttbrowser
Green room → live
check levels off-air, then on
Tahti Radio
24/7 meta-stream, slots back-to-back
TwitchYouTubeKick

One live broadcast, mirrored out to every platform at once — and every show recorded automatically, ready to publish now or schedule for later.

The music never stops between shows — past sets and community-chosen tracks keep the signal live, so dead air never gets a slot.
For listeners

Free listeners hear the real thing.

A free listener on a member's channel hears the same lossless FLAC the artist streams. No pay-to-hear-it-properly. (Free-tier artists broadcast at 192 kbps MP3 — still cleaner than most platforms give away.)

Publishing & releases

One upload, everywhere it should be.

Embed any player — channel, release or show — on your own site or a forum post. The distributor charges its own delivery fee; that's the only cost in the chain. We take no cut of any of it.

★★★★★
counts for nothing

Give it away or sell it — both win. Only doing nothing earns nothing. Early on the pool is small; it grows with the membership.

Keeping it honest

Hard to game, by construction.

Passive earns nothing

The classic bot-farm trick — streams left running — simply doesn't pay here.

Counted once

Downloads count once per account, with rate limits.

Pattern detection (building)

Real fandom is messy; fake activity is too tidy.

Always a human

Nothing docked silently. We flag, we tell the artist, and there's a right of appeal.

Open by design

Open source, all of it.

01The code we run is public — under AGPL, and every page links to its own source.
02We welcome forks — not just tolerate them.
03No lock-in. Your releases, archive and fan records export any time.

You stay because we're good — not because leaving would cost you everything you've built.

Built to be extended

A platform, not a fixed menu.

Almost everything on the surface is a plugin — switch on only what fits how you work, and leave the rest.

The guarantee

It can never be turned against you.

If prices ever crept up
fork it and run it your way
If ads or data-selling slipped in
the constitution forbids it — public source can't hide it
If we were sold, or folded
the platform lives on; export everything
If a feature you rely on was removed
keep it alive in a fork

There is no version of this where you're trapped anywhere but your studio.

Rooted in Helsinki

Finnish nonprofit, Finnish infrastructure.

Our own hardware

In Helsinki, with UpCloud's Helsinki region for overflow — and no third-party CDN.

No account to listen

No analytics cookies; identifiers hashed and rotated daily.

No data to sell

We don't collect it in a form that would let us.

No vanity metrics

Our constitution bars listener-hours as a headline number.

Plans

Free to listen. €40 a year to be an artist.

How we're funded

The cleanest possible money.

Money in: member subscriptions, direct fan support, and cultural grants. No VC, no equity, no exit — it's written into the constitution.

~200 members
Year one
A planned deficit, covered by a founding grant. Pool to artists: €0.
~600 members
Break-even
Costs are covered; a surplus begins, and the first grant pool opens.
1,500+ members
Growth
The pool grows with the membership — shared out weighted by engagement.

90% of surplus → artist grants  ·  10% → reserve, capped 6 months (overflow back to artists)

Finnish Cultural Foundation Kone Foundation Creative Europe
Governance

Not a company you upload to — an association you own.

One member, one vote. Proposals run continuously; formal decisions at the AGM.
Core promises locked — no cut of fan support, no data sold, no ads — changeable only by a two-thirds vote, 60 days' notice.
No exit, no shareholders. Surplus flows to artists; the board becomes artist-majority as it matures.

You make the music, and you steer the ship.

Transparency

The books are open.

Public bylaws

The rules aren't buried — they're published.

Monthly ledger

Append-only and audited — not a once-a-year PDF.

Salaries public

What we pay the people running it is on the record.

Grant pool in the open

Runs on the same public ledger.

You don't have to take our word for it — you can just look.

Roadmap

Already running — not a someday project.

Public launch

Still coming, so you hear it from us: multitrack + stems on top of the editor, the next anti-gaming layer, and more distribution options.

Honest risks

What could go wrong — and our answer.

Stay small
Why we start with real communities, not the void.
Funding timing
Break-even ≈ 600; year one a deficit on a founding grant.
Small team
Succession & artist-majority board written in from day one.
We'll err
You hear it from us first — and vote on the fix.
Infrastructure
Fibre upgrade arrives with the growth that pays for it.

The promise isn't perfection — it's that the promises are constitutional.

Invite round opens soon

Don't imagine it.
Come through our door.

The beta is running now. Join the first wave of artists — set up a channel, run a show, and help steer what we build next.
